Appalachian mountain dulcimer players- make friends, share, learn to play- Free!

Here's a tune with some 'mixing' in the mixolydian! Learned from a recording by WV fiddler Wilson Douglas. A.W. Jeffreys dulcimer tuned A-a-a. There is a D# in some of the sub=phrases, giving them a lydian flavor. The note is produced by tilting up the noter and pressing it against the string, as described by Robin Clark in his FOTMD thread: BONAPARTE CROSSING THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS .

Here's a link to Wilson Douglas' playing of this tune: http://wilsondouglas.bandcamp.com/track/pretty-little-cat

Thank you for commenting Robin, Geekling, Val, John, Randy. Carrie and Mandy!

My favorite banjo player lives about 100 miles from me.  We're old friends and play together when we can. The last time was Sunday -- he's a Lutheran Pastor and we do a Bluegrass service at his church every 6 weeks or so.  Usually I just have my fiddle with me so we do a little of the ol' fiddle/banjo thing after the service.  I suppose we could record something, sometime, if his schedule allows...

I hadn't noticed the similarity to June Apple before you mentioned it John -- I think I might look into that...

Thank you again, everyone, for your very nice comments!

Outstanding!  It reminds me of "June Apple" quite a bit.  Nicely done!

I have a main blog for Traditional style mountain dulcimer playing here: Mountain Dulcimer Noter-drone Blog This is an old style of playing where you only fret your notes on the melody string, while letting the drones strings ring open. In my blog, I express my personal views about playing, I offer free TAB and free beginner videos, and I try to help beginners understand in a very basic simple way the 'mysteries' of playing the mountain dulcimer in traditional modal noter/drone style.
