Need for a dear Dulcimer friend; George Haggerty

Bonnie Leigh writes:  “I just heard that George (Haggerty) has 4 blockages in his heart and needs heart surgery.  He's scheduled for next Thursday.  He doesn't have insurance and the hospital/surgeon needs $1200. up front before the surgery.  George & Mary don't have it and he is thinking of canceling it.  I sure hope he doesn't.”

George & Mary have been a very important part of the Dulcimer Community building, running festivals and teaching and encouraging countless players.  Undoubtedly many of you learned your first note and strum from George.

I would like to appeal to the Dulcimer Community on behalf of George and Mary and ask that each of who receives this consider sending $10.00 to George and Mary.  If everyone on the Pocono List did this we would raise about $4000.00  - If everyone on the Dulcimer Digest did this it would be at least that much greater.

They have not asked me to do this but I value George as a friend and know, as an independent craftsman, he and Mary would be grateful but would never ask for help.

You can send your $10.00 (or more if you choose) to;

George Haggerty

My check's already in the mail, Norm.

Plus, I've been asked to cover the Noter & Drone class he was to teach at Mount Dora on Feb 9th.

Thank you Norm and Bobbie for putting this up. I would encourage those that could to support George and Mary and they are tireless in their work and support of the Dulcimer community. The very first Dulcimer event I went to is the one that George and Mary organize and have been doing so for 20+ years. I also own a dulcimer made by George as am sure are many others. FOTMD does not generally solicit funds or assist in fund raising but I believe this is a special case.

I have a main blog for Traditional style mountain dulcimer playing here: Mountain Dulcimer Noter-drone Blog This is an old style of playing where you only fret your notes on the melody string, while letting the drones strings ring open. In my blog, I express my personal views about playing, I offer free TAB and free beginner videos, and I try to help beginners understand in a very basic simple way the 'mysteries' of playing the mountain dulcimer in traditional modal noter/drone style.
