Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.  My parents lived long, full lives.  They both had said they were ready.  My son's life was a very difficult one.  I feel my loss deeply but am comforted to feel that he is at peace with his grandparents- and I am heartened by the outpouring of love from his friends & his sisters' friends, friends' parents, many others who knew and loved him.  I feel that love as well.  And yes, my Dulcimer is bringing me peace.  I'm looking forward to finding a suitable group or teacher for myself.  Thanks for your kindness.

Sue, there seem to be a few members in Rochester:

and about 90 NY state members altogether:

If you look through those 90 in the search link, perhaps some of the towns listed are right near you as well.

Sue,

Please accept my condolences. I found playing my dulcimer to be a source of comfort following the unexpected death of my sister a few years ago, and I hope it brings you a measure of peace as well.

You may already have this info: http://everythingdulcimer.com/clubs_display.php?state=NY. If not, I hope it proves helpful.

Sue: I have no knowledge of a dulcimer group to recommend to you. I do offer my prayers and compassion. I can not begin to imagine the loss you feel. I wish you peace.

Sue, it seems you've had a real rough patch recently. I can't imagine your heartache. I certainly hope music in general and the dulcimer in particular can offer you some comfort.

I have a main blog for Traditional style mountain dulcimer playing here: Mountain Dulcimer Noter-drone Blog This is an old style of playing where you only fret your notes on the melody string, while letting the drones strings ring open. In my blog, I express my personal views about playing, I offer free TAB and free beginner videos, and I try to help beginners understand in a very basic simple way the 'mysteries' of playing the mountain dulcimer in traditional modal noter/drone style.
