Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer

Appalachian mountain dulcimer players- make friends, share, learn to play- Free!

The Tucson Dulcimer Society (gasp) played a birthday gig this Sunday afternoon. It was a joint party given by two friends for themselves, their families, and friends.

Site was a new brewery which was close enough to railroad tracks that a well aimed spitball might have harmed the conductor! Since we had played for the opening of the Gadsden Pacific Railroad Museum (small trains) we were well equipped with songs about trains.

Perhaps a drop or two of the terrific brew relaxed us all but this is the best ensemble playing we've ever had. Spread in a line where we really couldn't see each other well, we got into synch and remained so. Ever have that glorious experience when everybody is together and smiling and playing your heart out to an audience who seemed to love every minute.......

I personally awarded myself Air Dulcimer Player of the gig award for superb licks and synchronized strumming on 2 numbers which shall remain nameless. My shame would be too intense to bare.

The high our group experienced had nothing to do with minute consumption of biblical beverages. Doggone it, we were on and joyful. Hope everyone shares similar experiences -- often!

I wish I had been there Kristi. Sounds a real hoot.

Kristi, that sounds grand!  I've had similar experience though not often.  And there's no rhyme or reason really to when the music made seems magical (or not)-- and it's all good!

I have a main blog for Traditional style mountain dulcimer playing here: Mountain Dulcimer Noter-drone Blog This is an old style of playing where you only fret your notes on the melody string, while letting the drones strings ring open. In my blog, I express my personal views about playing, I offer free TAB and free beginner videos, and I try to help beginners understand in a very basic simple way the 'mysteries' of playing the mountain dulcimer in traditional modal noter/drone style.
