I managed to purchase this 1995 McSpadden SS-W on E-Bay last night. It's signed by George Looney, the seller says. I am looking forward to receiving it soon! I think I got a pretty good deal at $178 plus S&H. (If I got fleeced, don't tell me!)

I immediately ordered Madeline MacNeil's "Mel Bay You Can Teach Yourself Dulcimer" from Amazon, not that I'm anxious to get started or anything.

Steve, congratulations on purchasing this dulcimer. Those Sweet Songs are very nice instruments. I am sure you will enjoy playing it.

Wishing your dulcimer safe travels! :)
Steve, playing dulcimer has given me hours of great pleasure; I wish the same for you. Happy strumming!

It is an attractive instrument--for a lesser price, I would have enjoyed it.  I did not continue because I play noter/drone style (which can be played on a modern instrument, of course, but there are differences).  I hope you enjoy it!

Rick, here's the story of the bidding: http://linkmeister.com/wordpress/2014/04/i-got-it/

If you started it, let me thank you for not persevering. ;)

I was following that auction--I think I might even have gotten the ball rolling.  I think it is a good deal.  Love to hear how it sounds.

Steve, from all appearances looks like you got a good deal.

I have a main blog for Traditional style mountain dulcimer playing here: Mountain Dulcimer Noter-drone Blog This is an old style of playing where you only fret your notes on the melody string, while letting the drones strings ring open. In my blog, I express my personal views about playing, I offer free TAB and free beginner videos, and I try to help beginners understand in a very basic simple way the 'mysteries' of playing the mountain dulcimer in traditional modal noter/drone style.
