Boy, that is a strange instrument but if you learn to play it I would thing it would be fun. Each night before I go to bed I sit on the end of the bed and play Angelfish my Stick Dulcimer, it is a great way to relax and sleep well.

Kevin, could you provide a link to your page, please? I am always on the hunt for a new strum!

Awesome instrument!  It pretty well covers all the bases except woodwind unless I missed something!!

Not sure where this instrument would belong but it does have a stick type of dulcimer on it, so in this group is where i`ll put it.

Hello Joanne, I started with the McNally, standard and as I learned I retuned it to FCF tuning and later purchased a Grand tuned to DAD. They are fun to play and if you like a good friend of mine has a book of 69 simple songs and it is not expensive, I can forward the info if you like. The small Strumstick group we have here in Kingston uses this book to learn and work from.

Hi Wayne,

Yes my Strumstick is a McNally. It's got great sound. It sounds like a mini banjo. One of the musicians here at Kings Landing loves it. I am in the process of learning three songs on it. Haven't had much chance to play around with it yet.

Hi Joanne - is your strumstick a McNally - also check out the latests posts in the North of the Lakes group there is some info there about Canadian Luthiers who make the Mountain Dulcimer.

Welcome Joanne.  Did you by a Strumstick (tm), or another form of American Cittern from another builder?

Comment by Joanne Bois on December 14, 2011 at 10:41am

I just bought my first Strumstick and I am now looking to purchase a Dulcimer.

Nice looking headstock John. I used a similar looking style on my latest Cigar Box Strummer I made. Works very nicely.

Visit Strumelia's Beginner Noter-Drone dulcimer Blog

I have a main blog for Traditional style mountain dulcimer playing here: Mountain Dulcimer Noter-drone Blog This is an old style of playing where you only fret your notes on the melody string, while letting the drones strings ring open. In my blog, I express my personal views about playing, I offer free TAB and free beginner videos, and I try to help beginners understand in a very basic simple way the 'mysteries' of playing the mountain dulcimer in traditional modal noter/drone style.
