I was just reading some old postings from Mudcat cafe.
Here is what Jean had to say about winter and the holidays in December 2005:
"Let each of us celebrate the Season in his/her own way...the shortest day is approaching- then the new year will begin to grow and the days lengthen and grow warmer, seedlings sprout and life begin again. My name for it is Christmas, and, The Winter Solstice. Give it your own name and may you all be warmed and blessed in its celebration. God has many names, and honors all His/Her children! Love, Jean"

Comment by Lois Hornbostel on March 8, 2012 at 10:23pm Got to visit with Jean this week. She's looking beautiful and full of smiles. She is not performing but still sings very sweetly!
At Dulcimerville (June 4-9) Aubrey Atwater, who has performed with Jean, will teach a 2-hr. class in "The Music of Jean Ritchie and the Ritchie Family."

Comment by Kimberly M. on February 24, 2012 at 11:29pm Cyndi, it took some searching, but I ended up finding it at Elderly Music. Here's the link: http://elderly.com/recordings/items/GREEH-CD714.htm
I highly recommend it! I've been listening to it over and over!

Comment by Kimberly M. on February 14, 2012 at 6:34pm I just received Jean's CD "The Most Dulcimer" in the mail. I'm smitten.
Comment by Jim Yates on January 15, 2012 at 9:20pm Maybe my memory's playing tricks on me, but I seem to recall hearing that Jean was playing at a venue with Doc and there was a song where she normally played guitar, but she thought," Since Doc is such a great guitar player, I'll let him play the guitar." When it came time to do the song, Doc played it exactly the way Jean had played it.
She asked him why he played it so simply like she had and Doc told her because that was exactly what the song needed.
